I have been using Slimfast for quite a while as I have lost weight and now need to work at keeping healthy with my food choices. I used the Slimfast Optima in the cans for the longest time. They were fine but very bulky to purchase and store and though the drinks did fill me up for 4 hours as stated they weren't such a treat while drinking them. They tasted fine but were somewhat bland.



I ordered this powdered version for convenience sake. The order comes with 3 cans - 14 shakes per jar - for a total of 42 shakes. What a great deal! But most importantly I have the freedom to make the shakes to my preference for a treat just like a milk shake. With the directions they say you can just mix it with milk and drink. I don't recommend this - very boring. Definitely use a blender. I use the powder, ice and milk in the blender and add my favorite fruit as well. What I get is a frothy, tasty, cold delicious treat that I look forward to drinking. I savor it and it holds me over for 4 hours and is so preferable to the premade shakes in a can.



It is important to remember that no nutrition/diet item is a miracle worker. This product will give you meal supplements that you will love to drink but it still rests on you to make healthy choices the rest of the time. Slimfast does have great tools for free on their site to help you as you try to loose weight and eat healthy.

Most Gyms and stores only have 2.5 lb plates so you can only increase your dumbbell or barbell poundage at 5 lb increments. The problem is 5 lbs can be too much of an increase in PERCENTAGE of the poundage you are lifting. 5 lbs is usually too much if you are doing dumbbell exercises because you will usually be lifting less poundage than on a barbell exercise.



If you are doing Dumbbell Lateral Raises 20 lbs X 10 to muscular failure(momentary exhaustion, your BODY is unable to complete another repetition without rest) and you increase the poundage to 25 lbs on your next work out it will be very hard to do the exercise. You probably will only be able to do a few repetitions at most, you will not be able to lift it 8 or more repetitions. If you do Bench Press 200 lbs X 10 to muscular failure you probably will be able to complete 8 or more repetitions at your next work out. The reason for this is the PERCENTAGE increase in poundage on an exercise depends on both the actual poundage and the amount you are increasing it. If you are increasing the poundage on 2 different exercises by the SAME amount, but the poundage you are lifting is a DIFFERENT amount , the HIGHER the poundage you are lifting will result in a LOWER PERCENTAGE increase when you increase the weight by the SAME amount, and the LOWER the poundage you are lifting will result in a HIGHER PERCENTAGE increase when you increase the poundage by the SAME amount.



For example if you are Bench Pressing 200 lbs and you increase the poundage 5 lbs that is a 2.5% increase. If you are doing Dumbbell Lateral Raises at 20 lbs and you increase the poundage 5 lbs that is a 25% increase.



With these plates you can increase your poundage on an Olympic(2 inch diameter barbell & dumbbells) barbell or dumbbell by increments of .5 lb, 1 lb, 1.5 lbs, and 2 lbs.

I mean it too. These weight plates solve a big problem- being force to go up in bigger increments than you're ready for. While these are a somewhat expensive investment, know that I did a pretty extensive search on the internet on fractional plates and was unable to find anything cheaper than what's offered here.



In most gyms, the smallest weight plate you'll find is a 5 lb. plate and MAYBE a 2 1/2 lb. plate- if you're lucky. Even with the 2 1/2 lb. plate added to each end of a barbell or adjustable dumbbell, that's still a 5 lb. jump in weight- which may be okay for exercises like the squat or bench press where you work big muscle groups. However going up that much can be a lot for the smaller muscles, especially for the ladies, when you're doing exercises such as the biceps curl or tricep press. Problem solved with these weights- and believe me, its a whole lot easier and safer going up a 1/2 lb. at a time than going up 5 or 10 lbs. at a time!



Individuals that would like to start weight lifting but find free weights too daunting might consider beginning with elastic bands such as the Latex Free Light Resistance Thera-band Exercise Bands - Money Saving Light Resistance Pack with 1 thin, 1 medium & 1 heavy band for light resistance.

Charles Poliquin (Strngth coach) recommended in an article years ago to make very small weight increases instead of big jumps of 5-10 lbs. He stated by using fractional plates you could gain longer without hitting a plateau. Personally when I am getting in to challenging weights and the thought of another 5 lbs is daunting, being able to increase the weight by only 1/2 lb helps. I think "whats half a pound?" 8 ounces! I probably will not be able to feel the difference, yet I am still increasing weight.

This diet does work but there are a few issues with it. I tried it just to lose about 8 pounds that I needed to lose to meet a requirement. I would never have tried it but I had to lose weight quickly.



First off if your actually thinking of trying this you have to know that this is NOT a diet that anyone can actually stick with. This should be used for a quick very small weight loss goal, I would say 10 pounds or less.



Pro's

1. Fiber & Protein, that basically all your getting.



2. Low calorie



3. They are cookies, how bad can they be.



4. Quick loss, if you follow the plan.



Con's

1. Cost! the price is ridiculous 12 cookies for $20.00 come on who are you kidding? They are a rip-off!



2. Sustainability. There is no way that this is going to teach you how to change your eating habits and you can't follow this diet forever it's a fad.



3. Taste... There not that bad but they do kinda taste like an old stale grandmas cookie.



4. Variety.. You only have a few kinds to choose from making the sustainability factor that much worse.



5. Did I mention price? Seriously they are a Rip-Off!! They should be at the $5.00 a box range but since this is a "Weight Loss" product they get the people that are looking for any easy solution.



My recommendation is if you need a very small quick loss in a very short time you might want to try this. However if you are looking for something that is going to tackle a serious weight issue seek a dietitian not this.

I recently started this diet and although it's probably not for everyone; I really like it and it works with my lifestyle. I only think about food once a day and that's to prepare a healthly, flavorful and pre-planned dinner every day. The other diets have you thinking about food all day and this one is easy. A big downfall is if you let yourself get too hungry before you eat the cookie; it should be eaten in a timely manner, i.e. every 3-4 hours. I don't however limit my dinner to 500 calories because to me it would be a dramatic very low calorie diet which doesn't work with my body. The cookies provide 600 daily calories and so I prepare my dinner with 600-800 calories which makes it safer and I lose slower (2-3 pounds weekly). I have been trying to lose weight for years and I believe that I have finally found my niche. I lost 12 pounds in one month and I haven't lost that much weight on a diet ever.

I'd always been weary of products like these, but I decided to try it a few weeks before a big event. I was good the first week and lost about 5lbs. Someone mentioned an increase in heart rate -- I didn't experience that at all. I felt perfectly fine, and actually even better. It really forced me to drink the amount of water that I should be drinking, and I felt cleansed and more energetic. I only lost 5lbs the first week, probably because I wasn't eating healthy at all -- ordering pizza, eating frozen pizza, lots of carbs.



The second week (off the pill) still felt great and continued to lose a bit. Then I took a trip where the big event was. On a vacation, it's difficult keeping up with a routine that you have at home. So I wasn't able to complete the third week (second week on the pill).

I used this product for one month. The first week I used it I dropped a few pounds and then had to travel out of the country on business. It was hard to watch my food intake and work out. When I returned I had gained weight. I then hit the second cycle of the month supply and lost a few of the pounds I had gained in the travel. I do not know if it would have been a really good product had I worked out and dieted the whole time taking the product.
